Control Loading Systems

Precision Force‑Feedback Systems for Simulation and Training

Servos & Simulation designs and manufactures servo‑driven control loading systems that deliver accurate, real‑time force feedback for professional simulation environments.

These systems replicate the physical feel of real-world controls—such as aircraft yokes, rudder pedals, and throttles—enabling realistic training, reliable testing, and repeatable system performance.

What Is Control Loading?

Control loading is the process of applying dynamic force feedback to simulator controls to replicate real-world forces experienced during operation. Unlike spring-based controls, control loading systems:

  • Respond to real-time simulation inputs
  • Adjust resistance dynamically
  • Accurately reflect system behavior

This makes them essential for applications where realism and precision matter.

Control Loading System Components

Actuators – Generate precise forces applied to controls. Typically, a gearbox with a motor

Feedback Sensors – Measure position, velocity, and force for real-time correction. Typically, a potentiometer or an ADT

Drive Amplifiers – Provide controlled power to actuators.

Force Gauge – Measures force input to the flight controls. Typically, a load cell with the correct amount of force to work.

Control Software – Processes simulation input (position and force) then determines force response of the actuator.

Why Use Control Loading Systems

Control loading provides critical advantages:

  • Realistic control feel for training
  • Improved skill transfer to real systems
  • Accurate system response for testing
  • Repeatable and measurable performance

Without control loading, simulation systems cannot replicate real-world control behavior.

Servo vs Hydraulic Control Loading

Modern control loading systems increasingly use servo-driven electric systems instead of hydraulics.

ELectric Servo-Driven Systems

  • High precision and responsiveness
  • Low maintenance
  • Clean, all-electric operation
  • Long-term reliability

Hydraulic Systems (Legacy)

  • Higher maintenance requirements
  • Fluid management and wear issues
  • More complex infrastructure

Servos & Simulation systems are designed using all-electric servo architectures for improved performance and reduced operational complexity.
